Ireland will not be in WRC 2025

The possibility of Ireland hosting a round of the World Rally Championship in 2025 has faded after failing to secure the necessary government funding. Despite the efforts of the organization, which proposed a rotating event between Waterford, Kerry, and Limerick over a three-year contract, the lack of approval for a 15 million euros funding request has closed this opportunity.

The proposal initially received approval from WRC Promoter and was planned to revive the championship in Ireland for the first time since 2009, anticipating an economic impact of 300 million euros. However, the Ministry of State for Sport, Physical Education and Gaeltacht, led by Minister Byrne, indicated that they would require an additional six months for economic analysis, exceeding the deadline set by the championship organizers.

This delay has caused Ireland to lose its place in the bidding process for the 2025 calendar. The organizers regret this situation but maintain hope of finding future opportunities for the event, keeping dialogue with stakeholders.

Regarding the championship, it is expected that the WRC will soon announce an expanded calendar for the next year, including new rounds like the Rally Islas Canarias and possibly events in Paraguay and Argentina. Additionally, the inclusion of a round in Saudi Arabia is being considered.
