The Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 has set a new record in the full-bodied drag car quarter mile category, recording a time of 7.759 seconds at a speed of 180.14 miles per hour at the National Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals. This achievement surpasses the vehicle's previous mark of 8.128 seconds at 171.97 miles per hour set in 2021.
The development of the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 involved reductions in battery system weight and improvements in suspension setup. Pat McCue, from the Ford team, mentions that this vehicle demonstrates the advanced capabilities of electric vehicles in motorsport competitions.
The updated model, previously capable of 1400 horsepower, now includes a customized control system and an advanced battery system, designed in collaboration with MLe Racecars. Equipped with four PN250DZR inverters and two sets of DS-250-115 motors, the car has been optimized to enhance its initial performance.
The innovation in battery system design has enabled a 30% increase in power. These enhancements are part of Ford's broader effort to advance electric vehicle technology, benefiting both competitions and consumers interested in energy efficiency and performance.
