The 2024 Chihuahua Express Rally, held from April 24 to 27, was affected this year by a reduction in its usual duration. The competition, initially scheduled for four days, was limited to only two effective racing days due to issues with obtaining the necessary permits to close roads at various stages.
This event took place in memory of Manuel "Chacho" Medina, an influential figure in Mexican motorsport. The rally started at the Hilton Garden Inn in Chihuahua, offering challenging routes through the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Chihuahuan Desert.
The second day of competition proceeded smoothly, with the crew of the Skoda Fabia R2, consisting of Luma-Lalo, initially taking first place, followed by Henkel-Puente in a BMW M2. However, these results changed significantly on the third day.
The third day was marked by several incidents, including three road departures in the early stages towards the city of Ojinaga. Those affected were Marcus Neft and his son in a 2019 Camaro, Santiago Bojalil and Luis Lopez in a BMW M2, and Craig Johnson with Tom Ihler in a 1954 Lincoln Capri. Due to these incidents and the cancellation of some stages, competitors headed directly to services in Ojinaga before continuing to Chihuahua.
At the end of the event, Henkel and Sergio Puente, in their BMW M2, were declared winners of the 2024 Chihuahua Express Rally. They were followed by Luma García and Lalo Solis in second place with their Skoda Fabia R5, and Hans Lidbom along with Christer Holmberg in a Chevrolet Camaro took third place.
