INDYCAR officials have announced a six-position starting grid penalty for the cars of No. 4 Chip Ganassi Racing and No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing due to unapproved engine changes following the race on Sunday, May 26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The teams violated rule 16.2.3.2., which states that a fifth engine can only earn engine manufacturer points if a full season entrant has completed the required mileage with its first four engines. Otherwise, a fifth engine or more is considered an unapproved engine change.

According to rule 16.6.1.2., the penalty is a six-position starting grid penalty for road and street course events and nine positions at oval events. This sanction will be applied at the series' next event, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, on Sunday, June 2 on the Streets of Detroit.
