The McMurtry Spéirling PURE has set a new lap record for closed-wheel cars at the Hockenheimring circuit in Germany. This achievement occurred during the Dörr Group Trackday event on June 8, 2024, where the car recorded a time of 1.24.43, surpassing previous records.

The Dörr Group Trackday event took place on June 7 and 8, 2024, at the Hockenheimring circuit. During this event, the McMurtry Spéirling PURE, in its validation prototype 1 version, was presented to customers. With the car operating at 75% power and 75% downforce, it achieved a time of 1.24.43 on the 2.842-mile track.

Comparison with Previous Records

This new record makes the Spéirling PURE the fastest closed-wheel car at Hockenheimring, being 3.9 seconds faster than the quickest DTM qualifying time in 2020 and 14.1 seconds faster than the Mercedes-AMG One, which held the previous record for production cars.

Innovation and Technology of the Spéirling PURE

The McMurtry Spéirling PURE stands out for its fan technology that provides immediate downforce from 0 mph, working in conjunction with a 1000 bhp electric powertrain. This combination allows selectable driving modes ranging from GT3 levels to Formula 1 pace.

Future Tests and Development

McMurtry plans to continue with additional tests at various circuits around the world during 2024 and 2025. The goal is to bring the car to 100% capacity in terms of power and downforce, ensuring that the Spéirling PURE can break more records in the future.

Max Chilton, test driver and record holder at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, expressed his satisfaction in testing the car at Hockenheim. He mentioned that the atmosphere and the experience of driving the Spéirling PURE on this famous circuit reminded him of his days in Formula 1.
