Ferrari Strategy Review after the Imola Race

Communication and Weather Forecasting Problems Affect Equipment

Share:

Ferrari has acknowledged facing challenges during the World Endurance Championship race in Imola, which contributed to the team not achieving the expected victory.

In the second round of the WEC 2024, Ferrari failed to correctly interpret the weather forecast, which was crucial as the rain began to affect the race in its final stages. Giuliano Salvi, the team's track manager, indicated that the decision to switch to rain tires was delayed because they thought the rain would be brief.

Additionally, there were issues with internal communication within the team, which complicated the execution of planned strategies. Originally, it had been considered to adopt two different approaches for the two factory cars: one would switch to rain tires earlier than the other. However, this strategy was not executed as expected.

During the race, the Ferrari cars maintained the lead until the rain changed the track conditions. AF Corse, which operates the Ferrari cars, was slow to react properly, allowing other competitors, such as the Toyota GR010 HYBRID LMH, to take the lead thanks to their quick adaptation to the weather change.

In the end, the best result for Ferrari was a fourth place with car number 50. Despite these challenges, Salvi highlighted the team's progress since a less successful season opener and emphasized the importance of learning from these mistakes without assigning internal blame.
